About Surpatele Monastery

The Surpatele Monastery is an Orthodox monastery of nuns dedicated to the "Holy Trinity", located in Otasaului Valley, 3 km away from the “Dintr-un Lemn Monastery” (Monastery “From a Wood”).

It was built by Marica Brancoveanu between 1703-1706. Constantin Brancoveanu donated a gospel whose covers are coated with silver polished.

The church features a beautiful carved iconostasis, as the doors, in brâncovenesc style . The walls are painted with faces of lords who founded the holy place and a picture rarely met in churches iconography about "sharing Jesus clothes", executed by one of the two painters, Andrei and Iosif, who painted this church.
