About Iezer Monastery

The Iezer Monastery is an Orthodox monastery situated in Capatanii mountains, on the bank of river Cheia at an altitude of 900 m.

Founded by Radu I and his son Mircea cel Batran (Mircea the Elder), during the time, hermitage was damaged and was rebuilt in 1559 by ruler Mircea Ciobanu with his wife, Mrs. Chiajna, daughter of ruler Petru Rares (1527-1546).

The present church was built by Bishop Ilarion and monk Antonie, the painting was made ​​in 1720 by monk Nicolae.
