About The Dome

The Dome or St. George Cathedral from Timisoara or is the cathedral of the Roman Catholic Bishopric of Timisoara. The building is dedicated to St. George and was built between 1736 and 1774.

The Roman Catholic Dome (St. George Cathedral) is considered to be the most consistent and representative Baroque building from Timisoara and one of the most valuable existing from Banat.

Baroque monument is made of brick and has stone and stucco decorations. Towers have a reduced height determined by the proximity of the city wall. The interior is rich and sumptuous, pointing out the 9 altars decorated in baroque and rococo, carved by Viennese Johan Muller, decorated with old icons, pipe organ in the style of Louis XVI, copy of the famous pipe organ in the church of St. Sulpice in Paris , and oak doors decorated with collars of pure nickel.
