About Patrauti Church

UNESCO World Heritage Site.
Church "Exaltation of the Holy Cross" from Patrauti is a church built in 1487 by the Moldavian ruler Stephen the Great (Stefan cel Mare).

The ensemble of Church "Exaltation of the Holy Cross" from Patrauti is composed of:

Church "Exaltation of the Holy Cross" - built in 1487.
Wooden belfry - dating from 1725.

Above the entrance door of the church is an inscription in Slavonic by the following: "Io Stephen Voivod, son of Bogdan Voivod, began to build the church on behalf honest crosses in June 12th, 1487."

It is considered to be the oldest church built by Stephen the Great preserved today in its original form.

The scene  on the west wall of the church is "Judgement". This scene shows the battle between angels and demons.

On the west wall is a large composition named "Cavalcade of the Cross" (or "Cavalcade of Emperor Constantine the Great"), considered to be the most important painting of the entire assembly pictorial. This scene is not in other Orthodox religious countries, the painting is found only in Church "Exaltation of the Holy Cross" from Patrauti and Church "Beheading of St. John the Baptist" from Arbore.
