About Mirauti Church

It is considered to be the oldest church in the city of Suceava .

"St. George" in Suceava, also known as the Mirauti Church is an Orthodox church built in the XIV century.

It is dedicated to Saint George, celebrated each year on 23 April.

The technical similarities and presence of glazed bricks (on the floor and ancient tombs inside the church), the same as those found in Citadel of Suceava, lead to the conclusion that the church was built during the reign of Petru I Musat (1375-1391).

In 1388, ruler Petru I Musat (1375-1391) moved the Moldovan capital from Siret to Suceava (diplomatic reasons).

Thus, in the late fourteenth century ruler Petru I Musat, built a church near the Royal Court and another in the north-east section of Suceava, on the old street of Ulita Datornicilor, near the Citadel.

Mirauti name comes from the fact that here were anointed the rulers of Moldavia before being enthroned. Here was anointed as the ruler of Moldavia, Stephen the Great.

Ruler of Moldavia, Stephen the Great (1457-1504) renovated the place of worship.
