About Arbore Church

Church "Beheading of St. John the Baptist" from Arbore (also known as Arbore Church) is an Orthodox church built in 1502 in the village of Arbore (Suceava district) by hetman Luca Arbore . It is distinguished by exterior mural painting. Arbore Church is dedicated to Beheading of St. John the Baptist (celebrated every year on 29 august).

Arbore church is composed of:

Church "Beheading of St. John" - dating from 1502.
Belfry - dating from 1867.

Church "Beheading of St. John the Baptist" from Arbore is famous for its mural painting in fresco, of a considerable artistic value, which adorns both inside and outside.
The interior painting was done immediately after completion, in the years 1503-1504. It was damaged in the campaign of Sultan Suleiman the Magnificent,in 1538.

On the west wall is a large composition named "Cavalcade of the Cross" (or "Cavalcade of Emperor Constantine the Great"), considered to be the most important painting of the entire assembly pictorial. This scene is not in other Orthodox religious countries, the painting is found only  in Church "Exaltation of the Holy Cross" from Patrauti and Church "Beheading of St. John the Baptist" from Arbore.
