About The Fortified Church of Saschiz

UNESCO World Heritage Site.
Fortified Evangelical Church from Saschiz, Mures district, was built in the thirteenth century.

On the place where in other times was built a romanesque basilica, it was raised in 1493 a large fortified church. Massive church, built of stone quarry, gothic style, is a hall type church, reinforced with 22 abutments. The hall is very wide and long, and the choir is closed on three sides. In 1525 all works were completed.

The tower defense has a solid look and a set of levels with shooting holes. It was built at a distance of about 10 meters from the sacristy. The 4 turrets on the roof tower means that the locality had the right to sentence to death.
