About Clock Tower

Clock Tower is a historical and architectural monument of Sighisoara, the most massive of the nine towers to defend the citadel of Sighisoara which have been preserved so far (out of 14).
The monument has a height of 64 meters, is located in the south-east of the city and is visible from anywhere in the city center. The building was built in the XIV century to protect the city's main gate. At the end of sec. seventeenth century was fitted with a Baroque canopy, similar to the St. Vitus Cathedral in Prague. Over time Clock Tower building has become representative of the city.

The 4 turrets on the roof tower means that the city had the right to death sentence.

Today it houses the Museum of History of Sighisoara and is open to visitors.

The museum is composed of 3 parts: Clock Tower, Torture chamber, Weapons chamber.
