About Tricule Citadel

Destruction of citadel Svinita,  dating from  the fifteenth century, defended by the Teutonic Knights, has determinated the construction of Tricule citadel.

Stone from citadel Svinita was used to build the Tricule citadel.
The Tricule citadel was built in the sixteenth century by Peter Petrovici, ruler over citadels of Lugoj, Caransebes, Mehadia and over the valley of the Danube.

The fortress played an important role in stopping the Ottoman expansion.

It had the form a triangle,  composed of three towers linked together with walls. In present, from the three towers only two have remained intact, and the other one  was ruined by the war and swallowed by the Danube river.
