About Wooden Church from Surdesti

UNESCO World Heritage Site.

The wooden church from Surdesti, dedicated to the Holy Archangels was built in 1766 by master Ion Macarius. The church is distinguished by its impressive tower raised over the entrance.

Overall height is assessed at 54 m, which places it among the highest wooden sacral buildings in Europe and the world.

The interior painting of the church dates from 1783. The altar was painted by painter Stefan, the nave by painter Stan and the narthex probably by a disciple of the latter.

Particular note of the ensemble is given by the porch, with two rows of arches stacked with different openings, identical in shape and decoration.
