About Wooden Church from Sarbi Josani

The Josani wooden church, village of Sarbi, Maramures, was built of oak around the year 1685. This is the foundation of the noble family Dunca, who ruled the lower part of the village. They were patrons of the church continuously until the late 18th century. This means that family Dunca, cared and endowed the church for more than a hundred years.

The nave is covered by a semi-cylindrical vault. Above the narthex there is a bell tower. The roof has double eaves.

You can see some extremely valuable wooden icons, two, painted around 1775, can be attributed to Radu Munteanu.

Royal doors, beautifully carved, can be attributed to the family of craftsmen painters Plohod of Dragomiresti, Maramures.
