About Wooden Church from Plopis

UNESCO World Heritage Site.

The wooden church from village Plopis, commune Sisesti, Maramures County, dates from 1798. It’s dedicated to "St. Archangels Michael and Gabriel".

Was built between 1796-1798, from beams assembled in system "Blockbau", the founders were villagers.

With modest dimensions: 17 m long, 7 m wide and 47 m high, Plopis church is distinguished by its well-balanced proportions that make it known as one of the most cohesive and unified religious buildings of Maramures.

The painting was executed in 1811, by Stefan Zugravul of Sisesti and is being kept fragmentary on the nave vault, where stands the image of the Trinity, scenes from Revelation or Passion of the Christ.
