About Rodna National Park

The Rodna National Park (Parcul National Muntii Rodnei) is a protected area situated in Romania.

The Rodna National Park, with an area of 46.599 ha represents a mountainous area (ridges, mountain peaks, cirques, crevasses, caves, moraines, springs, valleys, forests and pastures) that shelters a large variety of flora and fauna species (some protected by law).

Rodna National Park is international designated as Biosphere Reserve by UNESCO Committee "Man and Biosphere".

The importance of this park is due to the geology and geomorphology of mountains, and to the presence of many species of flora and fauna, endemites and relicts glacial.

Tourist attractions:

Pietrosu Peak 2.303 m (highest Rodna Mountains)- from Borsa city, Maramures County (Avram Iancu street), follow the trail with blue strip (vertical line) for 4 hours.

Ineu Peak 2.279 (the second highest of Rodna Mountains):

- from locality Valea Vinului, district Bistrita Nasaud follow the trail marked with red triangle for 3 hours. Also, here are glacial lakes Big Lala and Little Lala.

- from Rodna, distrcit Bistrita Nasaud follow the trail marked with blue dot for 6-7 hours. Also, here are glacial lakes Big Lala and Little Lala.

- from locality Sant, district Bistrita Nasaud follow the trail marked with blue cross for 6-7 hours. Also, here are glacial lakes Big Lala and Little Lala.

- from locality Gura Lalei, district Bistrita Nasaud follow the trail marked with blue dot for 6-7 hours. Also, here are glacial lakes Big Lala and Little Lala.

Horses Waterfall (Cascada Cailor)- from the  Borsa resort, hotel Cerbu follow the trail marked with blue strip for 2 hours. (you can go with the chairlift and then 20 min walk).

Lake Iezer (Iezerul Pietrosul) - from Borsa city, Maramures County (Avram Iancu Street) follow trail marked with blue strip for 4 hours.

Glacial cirques Buhaescu - from Borsa city, Maramures County (Avram Iancu Street) follow the trail marked with blue strip 5-6 hours. Also here is the peak Buhaescu Mare - 2.257 m.

Glacial lakes Big Lala and Little Lala:

- from locality Valea Vinului, district Bistrita Nasaud follow the trail marked with red triangle for 3 hours. Also here is peak Ineu 2.279 m.

- from Rodna, distrcit Bistrita Nasaud follow the trail marked with blue dot for 6-7 hours. Also here is peak Ineu 2.279 m.

Not recommended during the winter.

Rodna National Park houses a rich population of carnivores: bear, wolf, lynx but, otter, marten, badger also chamois, deer, bats, wild pigs, predatory birds: golden eagle, pigeon hawk, sparrow hawk, common buzzard, red kestrel, swallows falcon, peregrine falcon.

The development of agro-tourism hotels and chalets makes the Rodna National Park to be a recreational place, as they say, a "green" tourism.

In the time spent on Rodna National Park can practice horse riding, hiking, cycling, fishing or enjoy the nature in its true splendor, in the wildest parts of Europe.
