About Peri Monastery

Peri Monastery was established in 1998, in the village Sapinta, with the desire to reproduce the historical tradition of the ancient monastery St. Michael the Archangel, founded by voivods Dragotesti in 1391, in Peri, Maramures, now on the territory of Ukraine.

The present monastery founded by Father Gregory Lutai is located in northern of Sapanta village, on the banks of the Tisa river, Romania, being made between years 1998 and 2003.

The wooden church of Peri Monastery is unique in the world, due to the fact that is the tallest wooden church in the world, 78 m.
