About Barnovschi Church

Orthodox Church, founded in 1627 by ruler Miron Barnovschi-Movila.

Ensemble of Barnovschi church is a historical monument and consists of:

Church "Assumption" - Barnovschi, dating from 1628.

House (cellars) - dating from 1786.

Ruins of cells - dating from the seventeenth century.

Bell Tower - dating from the seventeenth century.

In 1627, Miron Barnovschi-Movila starts raising the church, fails to complete it, because in 1629 is dethroned and is forced to retreat in Poland. Returns to the throne in 1633, but is arrested by the Ottoman Porte, after intrigues of Vasile Lupu. Sultan Murad the IV, offered him life if passes to Islam. "Miron Voda did not want to renounce the Christian faith" so in July 1633 was beheaded by the Ottoman Porte. The church will be completed by seneschal Costin Iancu.

In time, the church was restored several times, in 1786, 1836, 1880 and 2004.
