About Banita Dacian Fortress

UNESCO World heritage site.

Banita Dacian fortresses is part of the defensive system which includes six Dacian fortresses - Sarmizegetusa Regia, Costesti-Blidaru, Piatra Rosie, Costesti-Cetatuie, Capalna and Banita. All 6 have been named UNESCO World heritage sites.

On the territory of town Banita there is the Dacian fortress Banita (IV BC - 106 AD), dating from Burebista’s time, restored under King Decebal and destroyed during the Daco-Roman wars.

Fortifications includes military purpose constructions: enclosure walls, towers, platforms for battle, wave of defense.

Fortress task was to block access to Sarmizegetusa Regia from the south.

The fortress was functioned until the conquest of Dacia by the Roman Empire.
