About Memorial House "Constantin Brancusi"

Destiny of this humble settlement, with skilled people was marked by the son of the village, who knew with his mind and hands to turn a page in the history of modern art: Constantin Brancusi.

He was born on February 19, 1876, in family Nicolae Radu and Maria Brancusi, dealing with agriculture, woodworking (carpentry) and cattle breeding. The great sculptor will be learned from village craftsmen, first from his father and grandfather, the ability to carve wood which in his hands became life.

In Hobita, everywhere, Brancusi left marks: the beautifully decorated houses, the old wooden church, village cemetery with shrines and embroidered crosses.

Of the 204 works of sculptor C. Brancusi only few remained in the country (in Targu-Jiu, Craiova, Bucharest and Buzau), most are scattered around the world in the greatest museums and collections.
