About Viforata Monastery

Orthodox monastery, founded in the year 1530 by Vlad Voda (Vlad Sunken), he failed to finish the monastery because he drowned.

The construction of monastery was continued by the ruler Matei Basarab (1600) and renovated in 1700 by Constantin Brancoveanu and his wife Maria.
In 1802 suffers major damage because of an earthquake and is repaired by Grigore Brancoveanu.

Monastery shows an architectural Byzantine style.  An old painting made ​​during Grigore Brancoveanu period (a record of oil painting with a realistic expression) is still preserved.
