About Dealu Monastery

Orthodox monastery, founded by Radu cel Mare in the years 1499-1501. The whole building was completed between 1510 and 1512, during the reign of Voivode Vladut.

In this monastery functioned the first printing press in the Romanian Country and in 1508 appears the first book, a Missal.

In 1644, Matei Basarab brings in this monastery, the printing press  of Govora, the second from Romanian Country.

In this monastery are buried Radu cel Mare and the scrape with the head of Michael the Brave (Mihai Viteazul). The head was brought here by one of his captains and buried by Radu Buzescu.

On the tombstone from Dealu Monastery is written: "Here is the honourable, head of the greatest christian Michael, Great Voivode, who was the ruler of Romanian Country, Transylvania and Moldavia".
