About Potaissa Roman Camp

The start of marcomanic conflicts have determined Rome to send in the year of 168, the Legion V Macedonica of Moesia from Troesmis to Potaissa, to enhance the northwest defense of the Roman Dacia. The legion has built the largest fort from region, with long term operation.

The camp it housed 5.000 people and had: pretorium, barracks, two streets and four gates.

In 274, Legion V Macedonica, along with other roman troops withdrew from Dacia, later the inhabitants had used the stones walls to construct buildings and churches.
