About The Fortified Church of Viscri

Unesco World Heritage

Viscri fortified church was built in the thirteenth century on an ancient Romanesque basilica dating from the twelfth century.

Two bastions

Gate tower

The church was built in Gothic style by german colonists who settled in Viscri in 1200. Due to the ottoman invasion of the fifteenth century, the church was fortified .

The fortification was intended to guard the road between Brasov and Sighisoara.

Currently, Viscri Fortified Church is one of the representative buildings of Brasov County.
