About Popauti Monastery

Orthodox monastery, founded by Stephen the Great (Stefan cel Mare) in 1496.

Ensemble of Popauti Monastery is a historical monument, made up of:

Church "St. Nicolae" Popauti - dating from 1496.

The bell tower - dating from 1496.

The monastery was part of fortified ensemble raised by Stefan in Moldova Country , was the link point between Botosani and Royal Court in Harlau (Iasi).

Church style is modovenesc. This is visible in the plan and layout of the rooms, but also in tower and exterior decorations.

Interior painting of the church dates from the fifteenth century, only partially being preserved until today.

The bell tower had a multiple functionality, it serves as an emergency shelter.
