About Corbii de Piatra Monastery

The monastery is a complex of caves from fourteenth century, reestablished in 1512, during the time of ruler Neagoe Basarab (1512-1521).

Church was carved into solid rock wall, 30 m high and 14.5 m long.

Near the church is dining room of the monastery, a place carved into the rock, which was used by ruler Neagoe, to make public judgments.

The church is very valuable, not only in the way that was embedded in rock, but the painting that adorns the church, which experts say it is the purest Byzantine tradition, dating from the fourteenth century or even earlier .
