About Ramet Monastery

Ramet Monastery dates back to the eighteenth century. It’s one of the oldest monastic settlements in Transylvania.

Over the years, the monastery and the church have been under the protection of Matthias Corvinus, of voivod Radu Voda cel Mare, and of  Michael the Brave, who restored it.

Is one of the few monasteries who remained Orthodox in the Transylvania of the eighteenth century.

During the forcing transition to Catholicism, the monastery is destroyed by general Bukow, with the cannons.

The monastery suffers a new damage after the rebellion of Horea, Closca and Crisan (1784), as punishment for local participation in the uprising. It was rebuilt in 1792.

Today is an Orthodox monastery of nuns, built at an altitude of 500 m in Trascau Mountains, along the river Geoagiului.
