About Plaiului Canyon

Plaiului Canyon is a geological reserve of national interest, representing a picturesque landscape, very spectacular, carved in limestone. Reserve is located in the village Izvoarele, commune Livezile, Alba County. The canyon is crossed by Izvoarele creek. The canyon has a 1.2 km length and is guarded to the north by Cornului Peak (1.238 m) and in south by Plesii Peak (1.130 m).

It is surrounded by jagged ridges (four in number), detached from the southern slope of Cornului Peak, starting from its huge slope and down to the valley (towers, needles, rocks, huge corridors full of scree, scree mobile). The landscape  resembles a sea with petrified waves.

Within the reserve, access is made only on the tourist trail, marked with a red cross.
