About Citadel of Calnic

The citadel is the most valuable historical building and also the mark of the village Câlnic. Due to its preservation in good condition in the middle of a town, bearing the mark of German colonists settled in Transylvania, the building was inscribed in the UNESCO World Heritage List (1999).

The citadel was restored between 1962-1964 and today has been transformed into a cultural center of international scientific.

Citadel, as can be seen today, is composed of two rows of walls with oval track, arranged concentrically and strengthened with flanking elements: two towers and a bastion. The entrance gate is protected by a fortified corridor. The walls protects the interior courtyard, the heart of the citadel, in which is the chapel, fountain and tower-house.
